Kelsey Perusse

As a registered dietitian with a lifelong love of cooking, Kelsey’s agricultural journey began six years ago. She noticed a transformative shift in how students ate after visiting farms, inspiring her to launch an innovative school district farm. Today, she cultivates diverse produce—from strawberries to her favorite Red Kuri squash— but her ultimate harvest is educated students.

For her, the greatest joy is empowering youth to understand the food system, recognize the nutritional value of quality soil, and to respect farmers. Her proudest achievement is watching students truly own the farm space, whether they are playing tag in the cover crops or happily munching on fresh carrots.

Navigating the mismatch between the ideal growing season and the school year calendar has taught her team patience and innovation. They have learned to master winter harvesting and find creative ways to get kids excited about crops like cabbage.

Beyond nutrition, the farm has blossomed into a cherished community hub and a therapeutic "home away from home" for alternative high schoolers and struggling students. By bringing people together, she proves that nurturing the land is a powerful way to truly nourish the next generation.
