The Live Oak School District (LOSD) has transformed 1.1 acres of district-owned land into a nutrition and education farm that will serve both students and the broader school community. The farm is designed to increase access to fresh, organically grown produce in school cafeterias, helping address food insecurity and health inequities while improving the quality of school meals.

Helping to lead the development of the school farm is Geoff Palla who has been hired by the district as the Farm 2 School Manager.  Palla brings more than a decade of experience in faming from his previous role overseeing Berkeley's Edible Schoolyard Project, an influential educational garden established by chef and food advocate Alice Waters in 1995.

The farm's primary mission is to ensure that every child is nourished with fresh, organic produce they enjoy eating. Beyond providing healthy food, the program connects students with the land that grows it through hands-on agricultural and nutrition education, cultivating a lifelong appreciation for healthy eating and sustainable farming.

This initiative represents a significant step forward in the district's commitment to providing fresh, nutrient-rich meals while creating meaningful educational opportunities for every student.

Fresh produce grown on the farm has been featured in school meals since the first day of the current school year. More than a place to grow food, the farm is a place where students cultivate curiosity, strengthen their connection to the natural world, and develop healthy habits that can last a lifetime.
